Answers To Your Most Frequent Questions

Postings

Whenever a believer has it on their heart to donate an item, they post it as a seed. All material items listed on Store of Seed are considered seeds. Seeds can either be posted to donate or they can be taken by a believer.

If someone reaches out to you about the item or service you have posted on SOS, here are some recommendations you can take:

  1. Have peace about who the item/service is going to. If you get a strange feeling or things seem “off” and you believe the requester is taking the item to sell it for profit somewhere, you can politely deny the request or choose not to respond.
  2. If you would like to move forward with the exchange, you can ask the requester questions such as, “When do you need the item/service?” or, “Where would you like to meet to receive it?” Be sure to read our FAQ about safety and public meetings. You can still remain anonymous in this phase by corresponding with the requester via the website’s internal messaging system. You do not have to tell the requester anything about yourself.
  3. If you feel comfortable giving the item/service to the requester, decide on a public meeting place and give the item to the requester.
  4. Remember to delete your seed post after you have made the exchange.

There are several reasons a post could be deleted:

  • The post did not meet our terms of use and was deleted by an SOS administrator.
  • Your post expired after 6 months. You may choose to re-post it. You should have received an email notification about this.

Adding photos to a post is not required, but highly encouraged.

To add a photo:

  1. On the POST A SEED page, click the dark blue UPLOAD IMAGE button.
  2. A pop up window will appear where you can browse through your files and select the images you want to add.
  3. Be sure to choose the image you want featured 1st, then the others. You can upload up to 3 images.

Be patient while the upload takes place. The website is compressing large images. We also encourage you to reduce the file sizes of your images.

If you want to remove a photo you have uploaded, simply click the “Delete Permanently” link.

Click SAVE DRAFT & PREVIEW. If your post is as you want it, click PUBLISH LISTING.

Whenever a believer has a need, they can post it to Store of Seed. Needs can be a ride to work, payment of a utility bill, moving or borrowing a lawn mower. Needs can be posted and needs can be met.

When posting a need, first be sure to check the list of seeds to ensure the item you need isn’t already posted.

How to post a seed:

  1. Be sure you’re logged into your account.
  2. Click POST A SEED from the top header menu.
  3. Fill out the appropriate category, listing description, title and location. Your contact details such as phone number and email are optional. These may auto-populate based on your account profile information, but you can choose to delete them to remain anonymous if you prefer to be contacted through the website instead.
  4. Upload images (if any).
  5. Click SAVE DRAFT & PREVIEW. Review your draft post. If everything looks good, click PUBLISH LISTING.
  6. Your post will be submitted to an SOS administrator for review that it meets standards and compliance. You will not automatically see your post listed on the website. You will be emailed once your post has been approved/deleted. *Note: you will not be able to make edits to  your post during the approval process.

First and most importantly, SOS is not meant to be a replacement for provision through a job. You are free to request an item you want, but please remember to give as much as you receive. Store of Seed is not meant to be a shopping website.

Here are the steps to take to request an item/service:

  1. Be sure you are logged into your account. You will need to create an account if you do not already have one.
  2. On the right side of the post, the owner’s contact information is sometimes displayed. You can reach out to them via email/phone call. Sometimes their contact info is not displayed and they prefer to remain anonymous. In this case, you can send them a message through the website by filling out the contact form.
  3. Wait patiently for a reply. Be respectful and do not harass the owner. This could be reported as abuse and result in account termination. The owner has a right to refuse, so accept the answer gracefully.
  4. If the owner decides to move forward with giving, work with them to establish a place and time to meet in public to make the exchange. Thank them and praise God!

Yes! Store of Seed was founded on the model of the early church of Acts where the believers shared everything they had and no one claimed any of his possessions was their own. Only post items you are willing to part with free of charge. When meeting a need, do so as your heart moves you without expectation of payment.

Any solicitation for payment of an item or service will be reported for abuse of the system and may result in the deletion of your account.

If you choose to remain anonymous when posting a seed, you can do that by ensuring your phone number and email address is not filled in the Contact Details of the POST A SEED  or POST A NEED page. These are not required fields and will only show up if they are typed in. They may auto-populate from the information listed in your member profile, but you can delete them when you post a seed. Always be sure to PREVIEW your post before you publish it.

If you choose to remain anonymous, people needing your posted item/service will fill out a contact form through the website and you will be notified via email. That email will contain the requester’s name and email address along with a message from them. You can decide at this point to contact the requester via email, text or phone call if you want to move forward. If you choose to remain anonymous, correspond with people via the website’s internal messaging system.

When logged into your account, click MY SEEDS from the top header menu.

You can do a search for the post you want to edit/delete or you can scroll through the list of seeds you have posted.

Then next to the seed you want, there are buttons to edit/delete that post.

To edit it, click EDIT and make the necessary changes, then be sure to click the SAVE CHANGES button at the bottom of the post to finish.

*Note: You will not be able to edit a post during the administrator review process. So be sure you view your post as a draft first, then submit it for admin approval to be published. You will then be able to edit your post after admin has published it.

If you cannot locate your posting, please note:

    • You may need to refresh/reload your internet browser.
    • Posts are reviewed and published by SOS administrators to ensure compliance and safety. Your post may not have been reviewed and published yet. You will receive an email once your post is live.
    • Make sure to look in the correct category and correct location (ie: books in Las Vegas).
      • If unable to locate a post using search, make sure the keyword used actually appears in the post.
      • Posts may be removed or omitted from index pages and search results by Store of Seed for non-compliance with terms of use and/or site guidelines.
      • Postings eventually expire if it has been longer than 6 months.

You can post an unlimited number of items to donate as often as you like. SOS highly encourages believers to build up the church this way.

Needs can be posted often, but please remember to try to give more than you receive. The Bible tells us that giving is more blessed than receiving but we understand there are times and seasons where needs have to be met more often.

When taking a seed (an item), keep the same principle in mind. Always try to give more than you take. Excessive taking may be reported or flagged for abuse.

Seeds and Needs will expire after 180 days (6 months) and will automatically be removed from the listings. This ensures Store of Seed is kept up to date with the most current listings.

You can find your expired post when you login to your membership account and you will also be notified via email about your expired seed/need. You can choose to renew your seed/need if it has expired.

Users must comply with all applicable laws, the SOS terms of use, and all posted site rules.

      Avoiding Scams, Fraud & Harassment

If your personal information has been posted on Store of Seed, use our support@storeofseed.org email address to report the offender. You will be asked for additional information such as a record of the correspondence, dates, etc so please keep track of these.

If you are receiving email directly from another individual (i.e. you can see the sender’s email address and/or phone number), it may be advisable to forward details of the messages, including the full email headers, to the sender’s email account provider. If you feel the harassment is significant enough, it may make sense to report the issue to law enforcement as well. In addition, it may help to set up a block against the sender’s email address in your email client.

Please take the same common sense precautions online as you would offline.
When meeting someone for the first time, please remember to:

      • Insist on a public meeting place like a church, cafe, or shopping center.
      • Do not meet in a secluded place, or invite strangers into your home.
      • Be especially careful exchanging high value items.
      • Tell a friend or family member where you’re going.
      • Take your cell phone along if you have one.
      • Consider having a friend accompany you.

There are times and seasons in a believer’s life where we require a lot of help. But we must be discerning whether a believer is in that time of need and when someone is excessively abusing the system. If you feel as though the same person is abusing the system by taking too many seeds too often or suspect someone may be selling items for profit, you can report the individual by contacting us at support@storeofseed.org

We do our best to ensure all memberships are serious believers who understand the boundaries of the service offered, but occasionally there might be an inappropriate post. You can report posts by clicking “Report Abuse” at the bottom of each post’s page.

Deal locally, face-to-face —follow this one rule and avoid 99% of scam attempts.

      • Do not extend payment to anyone for anything. All SOS items and services are free of charge.
      • Beware offers involving shipping – deal with locals you can meet in person.
      • Never wire funds (e.g. Western Union)
      • Don’t accept cashier/certified checks or money orders (SOS is a free platform, there should be no monetary transactions involved.)
      • Transactions are between users only, no third parties involved.
      • Never give out financial info (bank account, social security, paypal account, etc).

Most scams attempts involve one or more of the following:

      • Email or text from someone that is not local to your area.
      • Vague initial inquiry, e.g. asking about “the item.” Poor grammar/spelling.
      • Western Union, Money Gram, cashier check, money order, paypal, shipping, escrow service, or a “guarantee.”
      • Inability or refusal to meet face-to-face to complete the transaction.
      • The same person taking items excessively is likely taking them to sell for a profit elsewhere.

The most important thing to remember with SOS is that transactions are FREE. Anyone asking for money should be a red flag. If you believe a scam is happening, please contact support@storeofseed.org You can report posts by clicking “Report Abuse” at the bottom of each post’s page.

Store of Seed is a free service and platform. All items posted should be given free of charge and all needs met should be voluntary without expectation of payment. If someone is soliciting an item or service for payment, please report the individual to support@storeofseed.org

Solicitation for payment may result in the deletion of the account membership.

      Membership + Accounts

For individuals who want to participate in SOS but cannot register under their church’s account, we have created a process for those individuals to become members.

We are strict about the membership process and want to verify each user, so phone verification helps keep SOS legitimate and safe.

      How does phone verification work?

After entering your contact details, you will be prompted to enter your phone number. After entering it, you should see a “verification number” displayed on your computer screen and we will call you asking for that code. Enter the verification number into your phone when prompted on the phone call and the new account registration will continue automatically.

What if I type my phone number incorrectly?

Re-enter your correct phone number and click VERIFY.

      • You may only enter the code three times.

      Disallowed numbers for phone verification:

      • Phone numbers from outside the US
      • Phone numbers that require an extension

Error message says phone number is “already in use”?

The number you are trying to use for verification is already associated with another SOS account. All accounts must have a unique phone number.

Problems? Contact us and let us know.

Store of Seed was created to help the body of Christ. As much as possible, we try to eliminate abuse of the program such as excessive taking of items or trying to sell items for a profit. To reduce abuse, we are selective about the account sign up process and having accounts allows us to track transactions. Therefore, no one is able to use SOS without a valid and approved membership account.
